For his installation at the Wynwood Walls, artist Simon Berger explores the universal experience of movement and self-discovery through his unique glass portraiture technique. Using the windows of an authentic Chicago Transit Authority subway car as his canvas, Berger captures the journeys we take, both physically and emotionally. The artwork is created using espionage glass, which is transparent on one side and reflective on the other, allowing viewers to see themselves in the piece and creating a dialogue between the artwork and the self. Berger's process, from conceptualizing the travellers to installing the reflective glass, emphasizes the shared adventure of life. The subway car becomes a space where perspectives shift, as the mirror-like exterior transforms into a canvas from within, inviting viewers to reflect on their own journeys. During Art Week 2024, a private demonstration showcased Berger’s precise technique, where he transforms ordinary glass into extraordinary art by applying controlled fractures. The installation at Wynwood Walls immerses viewers in a fusion of social reflection and stunning glass artwork, highlighting the beauty found in both the fragility and strength of the material.
